To Kill a Mockingbird Movie Review

I personally have never read the book and I regret that a lot. People have told me so many great things about the novel and now I'm super compelled to read it, I feel like a missed something essential from English class. I feel like this one of the many books that really talk about the issues behind race and how awful stereotyping can be. So, my thoughts on the film were that it was quite compelling to watch. I couldn't really watch the whole movie, so I looked up some of the parts I missed (the price I pay for being in chamber singers, not complaining though) But from what I did watch, I thought the topic itself was good because it talks about racism and how not everything is what it seems. The movie was released around the 60’s so I really liked the black and white/old film vibe I got from it. I liked how the story starts off with cute little white kids and kind of how they are raised in a decent loving household and have a maid (who is black, which is important) and they don’t really think about that. It shows how society is just birthed into this idea of white privilege and never really think twice about the minorities. With that being said, there was a crime of rape being investigated around their little town, and the guy being accused is a black guy. With that being said, people in town assume it was him because of the completion of his skin. The kids’ father, plays the man’s lawyer and defends him until they find the man innocent and real rapist dead due to suicide. It’s upsetting that still times are different now, it’s still not changing because of the ignorance we are born into, we always judge before we know for sure what the truth is behind a person. And this book/film speaks volumes now and then. Overall, a good watch.

Precious/Push Film and Book Review

Precious, the movie itself was almost identical to the book Push. Although, I had a different experience with both watching the movie and reading the book. When I read the book, I really liked the fact that we were really able to get inside Precious’s head, we were able to see her thoughts, and be honest to the point where some of the things she was coming clean about were disturbing. Like this one part of the book where she reflects on her father raping her and she mentions that sometimes, she hates the fact that it can feel good at times. I felt like that part specifically in the text was emotionally distressing for me, maybe it’s because I think of a friend of mine who had similar experiences with her father. Thinking about that broke me, it’s disgusting how someone you place your trust in and is supposed to love you takes advantage of you in that way, it pisses me off, I got sick to my stomach. But I feel like when I watched the movie, I was really able to see the abuse come to life. Like when I was reading it, it wasn’t as intense as I thought the film would make it be, the whole fight with her mother and her mom throwing the TV almost hitting Precious and her son, that part got to me the most. I think at that moment, I just really wanted to leave the class for a breather. I feel like the film really honored the text and really had you in this place of empathy for people who have been or are currently going through something terrible as this. What I liked in the book was we saw how far Precious has come through her writing and how much it’s improving, and in the film we see her improvement through her additude and demanding the respect she’s never had from others and leaving her own life. I love how the ending is hopeful yet mysterious at the same time. I loved it.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail Review

Okay, so I have to say that the Monty Python is a hilarious movie, I loved how random it was and how some scenarios didn’t even make sense throughout the film. The beginning part killed me because of the fact that King Arthur was trying to find members for his knight squad and then his wingman is crushing coconuts to make the sound of a horse trotting. I laughed even harder when he approached a castle and the guards were like “Are you suggesting that coconuts migrate?” Like that should have been my yearbook quote when I had the chance. Oh also the knights who kept saying “Ni!” like what was that all about? Whatever that was, it was great. It inspires me to scream “Ni!” to anyone who is annoying the living daylights out of me, (but of course I don’t think that would be an appropriate response to anything). I feel like this movie was completely random with the out of the blue musical numbers (well attempted by the helpless prince), the coconuts, the sexually frustrated nurses, killer bunnies, a murdered historian, and most importantly their quest to find the holy grail which was never accomplished.Okay, the whole historian thing threw me off because he got murdered in a time where he wasn’t even a thought and then the knights got arrested for a crime that could never even happen because of the time eras, but whatever. That part was confusingly hilarious, overall Monty Python and the Holy Grail was amazing and the writers were geniuses.
